When I went to the autumn harvest Draft and Mule and Carriage show Oct 7-9th,
I did so with FUN in mind. I set up a wonderful display of 24 feet and the Gypsy
Cob Society booth took up 12 feet and our gypsy fun tent next to the booth was
12 feet.. We were barned next to the Budweiser team and they were wonderful to us!
We actually STOLE the show with my gorgeous gypsy horses, 3 of which I brought
and had paraded throughout the 3 days up and down barn aisles and around the
grounds. People would come to see the Budweiser team and end up at our booth
just amazed by these gorgeous creatures! I was so proud and excited by our reception,
but the MOST rewarding moment was when a bus of elderly people drove in to look at the
Budweiser horses. They were unable to leave their van due to age and disabilities. I wanted
to show them the gypsy horses and was asked by their caretaker to give an introductory
speech to them and was happy to do so. I told them of my being the last wife of the film
director John Huston and how living in Ireland I met my 1st Gypsy horses as they ALL
could relate to his name and fame. As I spoke I had my handlers parade 2 of the horses
around the van and the elderly men and women came alive with smiles and applause. After
I left the van I was amazed by how my 2 1/2 year old stallion, Huston, while being paraded
around the vehicle, chose to stop and put his nose to each window. All of us watching had
tears in our eyes to see this as we knew the joy his behavior brought those inside. I was
SO inspired by our reception, I have decided to take my gypsy crew to the largest hunter
jumper show in the western states coming up in November in Santa Barbara and showing
that world how wonderful these animals would be for their children's' pony classes and
cob classes and I will enter one of mine who is Jumping now! What divine creatures these are.
When ready we will be competing in carriage classes as well. This has been a real joy! Celeste Huston
